Mend is gone: what to use instead

The most searched breakup app of its category shut down and never came back. Here is what we verified on 5 September 2026, and which apps actually replaced it.

What happened to the Mend app?

Mend was a breakup-recovery app that shut down in 2024. The company announced on 29 February 2024 that it was sunsetting the app and closed it on 31 March 2024, moving subscribers to a separate product called Mend Classes. Mend's own FAQ says access to Mend Classes ran through the last day of 2025, at which point that platform sunsets as well.

For years Mend was the name people searched when they wanted help after a breakup. That search now leads nowhere useful, which creates a very common kind of confusion: people assume the app is still out there and that the problem is their phone, their country or their Apple account.

What are the best Mend app alternatives right now?

The most visible Mend alternatives on the App Store today are no-contact and breakup-recovery apps: No Contact Tracker & Move On, No Contact: Breakup Recovery, BREAKFREE, Get Over Him, No Contact: AI Breakup Help, Breakup Buddy and Over It. All seven are free to download and charge a subscription inside. What separates them is language, how broad the programme is, and how many people have used them.

The figures below come from public US App Store listings and were checked on 5 September 2026. The language column is whatever each developer declares on their own listing, not something we tested screen by screen.

On price: all seven are free to download and all seven charge a subscription for the parts that matter. We are not printing the amounts because we could not verify them reliably for every app, and an invented number in a table is worse than an empty cell. The real price is in the "In-App Purchases" section of each App Store listing, and again on the paywall before you confirm anything.

What should you check before picking a Mend alternative?

Check four things, all of them visible before you pay: whether the app is genuinely in your language rather than just its store page, whether it has been updated in the last few months, whether it is a no-contact counter or a full recovery programme, and whether the subscription price is clear before you hand over a card. Those four questions rule out most bad choices.

Two very different products get lumped together in this category. A no-contact counter is a small tool: it counts days and holds a streak. A recovery programme is something else: content, exercises, mood tracking, sometimes a community. Both are useful, but for different moments, and they tend to cost about the same.

  1. 1

Look at the last updated date

It is on the App Store listing. An app nobody has touched in over a year may be heading where Mend went. It guarantees nothing, but it is the cheapest signal you can get.

  2. 2

Test the language inside the app, not on the listing

A listing naming your language does not mean the whole app speaks it. Very often the interface is translated and the written content is not, and the written content is exactly what you will be reading at three in the morning.

  3. 3

Decide whether you want a counter or a programme

If the only thing you need is to stop texting him, a no contact counter is enough and it is simpler. If what you are dealing with is bigger than that, a counter on its own will just frustrate you.

  4. 4

Find the price before you create an account

If you have to answer twenty onboarding screens before the app will tell you what it costs, you already know something about the product. The price should be easy to find.

When is Over It the wrong choice?

Over It is the wrong choice in four specific situations: you are on Android, because there is no Android version; you need something free, because the content sits behind a subscription; you only want a journal or a day counter, because simpler and cheaper tools do that better; and you need therapy, because Over It is self-help and does not replace it.

We are an interested party here, so the fair thing is to be blunt about where we do not fit. These four are not caveats. They are situations where installing Over It will waste your time.

  • You are on Android. Over It is iOS only. There is no Android version and none around the corner. If you are on Android, this page does not solve your problem, and we would rather say so than let you find out on your own.
  • You want something free. The download is free but the content needs a subscription. If money is tight right now, there is free material that genuinely helps, and you do not have to pay anything to start feeling better.
  • You only want a journal or a counter. If all you need is to log how you felt or count the days since you last texted, there are small apps that do exactly that and nothing else. They will beat Over It at that one job.
  • You need therapy. If you have not been able to function for weeks, if thoughts of hurting yourself have shown up, or if this breakup cracked open something older and larger, what you need is a professional. No app on this list, ours included, is a substitute.

Frequently asked questions

I still have Mend installed. Can I keep using it?

If the app is still sitting on an old phone it may still open, but there is no support, no updates and no way to download it again: it left the App Store when Mend sunset it on 31 March 2024. Change phones or delete it and it is gone for good. If you think an old subscription might still be active, check your subscriptions in your Apple account settings.

What is the best replacement for Mend?

There isn't a single one, and be sceptical of any page that hands you one winner. If you want whatever the most people have actually used, No Contact Tracker & Move On and No Contact: Breakup Recovery have the most ratings by a wide margin. If you need a language other than English, the list drops to four. If you only want to count days, almost any free counter will do. The useful question is not which is best but what you need this week.

Are there free alternatives to Mend?

All seven apps in the table are free to download, but every one of them charges a subscription for the parts that matter. Genuinely free, with no subscription attached, means smaller things: bare day counters, and the notes app already on your phone, which works better as an emotional record than people expect. If money is tight this month, start there rather than with a free trial that turns into a charge.
